Can You Get SSDI for Epilepsy? Seizure Rules Explained Simply
Reviewed by Gretchen Johnson, J.D., LL.M.
Seizures don't send a warning. That makes plenty of jobs unsafe. If epilepsy has kept you from working, here's what to know.
Does epilepsy qualify?
Yes, under listing 11.02. The big question: how often do seizures happen while you take your medicine as prescribed?
| Seizure type | How often |
|---|---|
| Convulsive | At least once a month for 3 months in a row |
| With loss of awareness | At least once a week for 3 months in a row |
Less frequent seizures can still qualify if they also cause serious limits in daily life.
Why does medicine matter so much?
Social Security wants proof that seizures continue even when you follow treatment. If cost made you miss doses, say so.
