Ejection Fraction and SSDI: What Your Heart Test Results Mean for Your Claim
Reviewed by Gretchen Johnson, J.D., LL.M.
Your ejection fraction (EF) is one number that can carry a lot of weight. Do you know yours? It's on your echocardiogram report.
What is EF?
It's how much blood your heart pumps out with each beat. Normal is roughly 50% to 70%.
| Your EF | What it can mean |
|---|---|
| 30% or less (while stable) | Meets the test part of listing 4.02 |
| 31% to 49% | Reduced; needs strong symptoms on record |
| 50% or more | Normal; other heart tests may still qualify |
Is EF enough on its own?
No. You also need symptoms or episodes that seriously limit you.
