Arthritis and SSDI: The Documents That Can Strengthen Your Claim
Reviewed by Gretchen Johnson, J.D., LL.M.
Arthritis is hard for other people to see. So your records need to show it for you.
What should I gather?
- A diagnosis from a rheumatologist or orthopedic doctor
- Blood tests like rheumatoid factor or CRP
- X-rays or MRIs showing joint damage
- Notes on swelling and range of motion
- Records of medicines, injections or joint replacements
How do I show what daily life is like?
- A flare diary
- Notes on your grip and hand use
- Your doctor's view on how long you can stand, walk and use your hands
Do side effects count?
Yes, they do. Fatigue or infections from methotrexate, biologics or steroids are real limits.
