Is Anxiety a Disability for SSDI? What You Need to Know
Reviewed by Gretchen Johnson, J.D., LL.M.
Racing heart. Endless worry. Panic out of nowhere. If anxiety makes work feel impossible, you might be wondering: can I get SSDI for this?
Can anxiety qualify?
Yes. Social Security reviews it under listing 12.06, which covers generalized anxiety, panic disorder, agoraphobia and OCD. PTSD has its own listing, 12.15.
What do they need to see?
Records of your symptoms, and proof they seriously limit how you handle people, focus, remember things or manage yourself.
Quick check: Does anxiety stop you from leaving home alone? Dealing with customers or a boss? Making it to work most days? Those are the limits to document.
